The iPad can be used in many different ways within the classroom and at home. I have provided names and information about individual apps and how your child can use them at home to support their learning

Reading:
ITunes - ITunes allows you to download books, audio books, videos, games, songs, and movies. This is a great app that can be used for school or fun.
Read2Go - this app allows any student on an Individualized Education Plan access to thousands of audio books for a one time charge of $20.00. Books include classic novels as well as content area text books. Please contact me for the correct paperwork to apply ([email protected])
Mobymax - this app allows you to practice reading, mathematics, writing, language, vocabulary, science, social studies and even more!
Clams - Clams is a library app that allows you to input your library card number to access any library book, audio book, or kindle book. As long as the book is available, your child is allowed to "check out" the book for seven days.
Writing:
Speak & Send - this app allows your child the ability to speak into the iPad and have the iPad transfer the speech to text.
Pages - this app is a wonderful application that allows your child the ability to type information into the iPad or open any pages document onto the iPad. Once the document is on the iPad, your child can select the text, select "speak", and have the iPad speak the selected text. This is a wonderful app that gives students access to an audio version of classroom notes, study guides, or reading articles.
Dragon Dictation - this app allows your child the ability to speak into the iPad and have the iPad transfer the speech to text.
Audio Note - this app allows your child to record important information onto the iPad. In addition to acting as an audio recorder, your child can type classroom notes into this program along with the recorded version. They can then listen to this information at home or at school to study or review information.
Recorder - similar to Audio Note, your child/student can use this app to record his/her voice onto the iPad for future review of information. Teachers may also record their lectures or classroom notes into this app; each recording can be individually titled based on the information recorded.
Math:
Splash Math - this is an app that allows your child to work through different mathematics concepts at their own pace based on grade level. This app can also be a great independent activity in the classroom for students who need review or enrichment with a specific topic.
Times Tables Quiz! (Multiplication Trainer) - great app to practice multiplication facts!
Math BINGO - your child can practice his/her math facts while also having some fun!
MathWise - this app allows your child the ability to practice different levels of addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Social Studies:
BrainPOP - this is a wonderful app that allows you to select videos about specific topics in the areas of science, social studies, english, math, arts & music, health, and tech. Your child can watch the video of choice and then complete a quiz about the video.
Khan Academy - just as the iTunes Store says it; Khan Academy allows you to learn almost anything for free. It covers a massive number of topics, including K-12 math, science topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics, and even the humanities with playlists on finance and history. Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge.
Maps of our World - learn the countries of the world with this app. Your sixth grader will be learning about many different countries and capitals this year. Use this app to quiz yourself!
Science:
